ENGLAND’s longest lake is poised to play its part in an aviation epic following a decision to allow a speed limit exemption.

Windermere’s usual 10 nautical mile an hour restrictions have been waived for an historic seaplane lift-off in September, expected to attract international attention.

Company director Ian Gee said the plan was to fly Waterbird on September 17 from near Windermere Motor Boat Racing Club at about 6.45pm. The seaplane will head towards Waterhead and then down to Lakeside

MARITIME knowledge, engineering expertise and technical eccentricity will be the order of the day in this year’s ‘Low Wood, No Wood’ cardboard boat races held on Windermere.

Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel & Marina plays host to the unusual wacky racing on the water which takes place on May 16, starting at 10am.

This is a 10 minute drive away from Elim lodge guest.

THE first ever Windermere Boat Show will take place next month with a range of sail and power boats on display – from sports vessels to 40-foot motor cruisers.

Free to attend, the new three-day event has been organised by Shepherds Marine and Windermere Marina Village in what is hoped to be the first of a series of annual boat shows on the lake.

The new Windermere Boat Show will run 10am to 6pm, March 20-22.
